Committees
In order to be responsive and adaptable to current needs and issues, the Council of Western State Foresters (CWSF) and the Western Forestry Leadership Coalition (WFLC) have created Committees and Task Forces. Some are long-standing while others may have a specific task and are short lived.
Currently, the committees and task forces for the WFLC and/or CWSF are as follows:
Pacific Island Committee
The Pacific Islands Committee aids the Council of Western State Foresters (CWSF) in developing informed and unified approaches to the natural resource issues and needs of managers in the tropical forests of the Pacific Islands.
The members of the Pacific Island Committee include: the Territories of Guam and American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the State of Hawaii, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republics of the Marshall Islands and Palau
Western State Wildland Fire Committee
The Western State Wildland Fire Committee (WSFC) helps to focus a unified state perspective on wildfire management in order to promote effective rural fire protection and to stimulate and improve efficiency in the protection and management of State and private wildlands in the western United States. The WSFC also help to administer the Western Wildland Urban Interface Grant Program
CWSF Western Federal Forest Land Policy Task Force
Through the CWSF, the Task Force consists of state representatives whose mission is to discuss, draft, strategize, and advocate for legislation and policy that promotes the effective and efficient management of federal forest lands in the west.
Western State Forest-Climate Coordinating Task Force
This task group will help coordinate resources and share information efficiently across the western U.S. The groups will host quarterly conference Calls to promote information sharing between western States regarding climate change activities. The group will also help maintain the WFLC Western States Forest and Climate Change Clearinghouse.
